Universal Knife
You've done through the week in college rookies or college relatively unscathed. What is the next hurdle in student life? Good trying to feed their car on a budget can be daunting to prospective cooking does not really matter. The main advice is to eat is essential! You may think you can survive and drinking coffee, but finally got sick.
Food for many that will be something that you just take for granted. You come to school / college / Work and dinner is waiting for you, you awake in the morning and no cereal in the cupboard and milk in the fridge. Likewise, food may come as a bit of a shock when you first arrive at the university or college. You may think you can go with biscuits and takeaways, but depending on how flush they are, eventually be no money and have to cook. But fear not, for the following pages contain a fantastic advice on how to eat on a budget.
Shopping
Students take pride in knowing where to buy the cheapest beans, bread and margarine. You may think that students eating beans on toast is a bit of a cliché, but this is just about the cheapest way to cover yourself.
Look for "value", "Price Smart" or "no frills" ranges that do not taste as good as the leading brand, but cost about the same.
Find when your local supermarket closes! Because just before closing to be the sale of shares that expires that day on the cheap. Besides knowing in the "specials" are on your local and buy these as often as you can.
Not worth it be too demanding when it comes to food. Do not shop with a general idea of what you eat, make a list of basic elements you need and be flexible the rest buy what's cheap! This diet is varied.
Utensils
Jamie Oliver may have a kitchen full of pots, knives, tableware funky, scouts, spatulas, mandolins and torches, but students are not and do not need them!
You can get by with a heavy skillet, a saucepan, stirring with a spoon, a spatula, a cutting board, a sharp knife, a bread knife, 2 large dishes, 2 sets of cutlery, 2 large cup (large enough for the coffee cups or serious a whole can of soup), 2 large glasses of wine, 2 glasses of beer, a salt grinder and pepper mill. This should not cost much, either within your student budget
Basics: Keeping these things in the closet all the time will mean you can always make a meal in a hurry!
Flavors: sugar, salt (preferably sea salt), pepper (as in grains of pepper), garlic, chili powder, coriander, mixed herbs and stock cubes (selection).
Consumables: Rice, pasta (spaghetti and forms), bread, potatoes, onions, canned tomatoes, canned beans, canned spaghetti, canned soup, canned tuna, anchovies preserved and canned meat.
Fresh stuff: carrots, cabbage, mushrooms, tomatoes, lettuce and courgettes.
Fridge things: cheese, margarine, Philadelphia, orange juice, beer, wine, vodka
Freezer things: pizza, empanadas, chicken and frozen vegetables.
Kitchen
Buy a good cookbook! "Jamie Oliver's Happy Days "book is full of simple, comforting and quick dishes that are ideal for students, but if not Jamie Oliver or Delia Smith, start with simple dishes and gradually learn what works and what does not.
Some flavors are naturally with some beef, chicken and lemon, for example, but some combinations do not really work lemon meat is a good example of a sick combo!
Pasta is a novice and student of first necessity and that combined with almost anything and is cheap and fast, but The end result will be more than the administration in it!
If not go with the pasta, then go with rice!
Meat is expensive, so use lots of vegetables, it is good for you, in bulk to your meals.
Soups can make very good pasta sauce or base for stews.
Salads are very easy, very fast and very healthy. Also, if you are a fresh with a culinary or artistic style can seem that you've been slaving over them for hours.
Grill meat is a great way to cook food. Allows you to put your food in the oven and then retire to a comfortable chair with a bottle of everything, but be careful not to get too drunk and forget the food is in the oven!
If meals are included in the price of its accommodation to try to reach them. If the food is bad then get changed if only serve breakfast until 8 o'clock then obtain the changing times. You are paying for a service to make sure the service works for you!
Finally, whatever their method of cooking and eating in college, trying new things. There will be people from all different backgrounds, regions and countries and they will eat all sorts of different things. Try them! University and college is a learning experience and not just in the academic sense.
And finally, students have come across, like you, very strange eating habits in college and university. Here are some of the strangest.
A student who ate all day and nothing else! 1 cup corn flakes, skimmed milk, roast chicken, salad, cheese and Diet Coke ate this for hallumi 3 years without change!
A girl who only ate fresh apples, biscuits and crisps for a first full year
The student who lived in the tea soup and lived.
