my dishwasher is a mess!! should i request a new one?
i live in an apartment and recently my dishwasher has gone haywire ... its leaving rust spots on my forks and knives and spoons, and at first i thought maybe it was just a cheap set, then i went and bought some stainless steel ones and they rusted too .. my good set of cutting knives have rusted, its leaving odd colored stains on my white plates and everything on the top rack (all my cups basically) gets hard crusty food stuck to the inside and outside of them. its driving me insane. ive tried different soaps .. ive used jet dry .. and nothing is seeming to work .. this is a "college type" of apartment and the sink isnt double sided, and the counter isnt large enough to sit a dish dryer on .. im having a baby soon so i need to know if its something that im doing wrong (but it wasnt like this at first) or if my dishwasher is just gone crappy, cause if so i need to request a new one from the office. Oh, and i do rinse off all my dishes before i put them in there as well .. thanks!!!
Here's my rule of thumb:
They can't shoot you for asking.
But honestly, this may not be solved by a new dishwasher. The rust on your dishes may be coming from the water....not the dishwasher itself.
I would request that they have their water tested. If your landlord won't comply then seek out the help of a renter's advocate group in your city. You're pregnant and by law, they have to cooperate if there's an issue with the water!
