Could someone create a diamond-tipped sword, and if so, How effective would it be?

Once I heard it was possible to create a sword with a diamond blade that is laser was incredibly precise and powerful in comparison with regular swords of fine craftsmanship. I wonder if is possible and what good it would be.

The sword edge should be lined with diamonds. So I would not have a continuous edge, but rather as a hack saw blade. Diamonds are hard but relatively brittle. Strikiing something with it would lead to the breaking of sharp edges. It would work well as a cutting edge. Diamonds are used in abrasive applications, sand, and industrial, paper and grinding wheels. However, the rapid loss of a sharp edge would make for a very dull blade.
