When you are choosing your new knife set, there are a few things to consider - the main one being what use your new knives will be for.

You will certainly want to make wise decisions so that your new knives will last a lifetime.  In general, you will want to purchase the most expensive set that your budget will allow.

Generally, it will be more affordable to purchase your knives in a set instead of individually.  Your set should include most or all of the basic knives you will need and ideally, would include a stand or container to store them.
Hopefully the set you invest in will also have additional knives available individually.
